Mount Anderson

PLAN MY TRIP

A unique and exclusive property located in the dramatic mountains above the town of Mashishing, Mount Anderson is the perfect retreat back to nature.

Accommodations at the lodge consist of five spacious rooms for up to twelve guests. There are three twin or double configured rooms and two triple rooms available. Each luxurious and homey room comes with an en suite bathroom with a shower and a heated towel rack. The Owner’s Suite is situated inside the main farmhouse and the other four rooms are located outside. Additional amenities include hair dryers, bathrobes, air-conditioning/heating, and free Wi-Fi. Every room enjoys a private veranda overlooking the mountain side.

The lodge is located in the Krantzkloof Valley in the popular tourism province of Mpumalanga which also incorporates the famous Kruger National Park. The Mount Anderson Water Reserve comprises 20,000 acres of geographically diverse landscape. Due to the higher altitudes, water seeps from sponges or between rock fissures creating marshland with their own ecosystems. This is a popular habitat for frogs and toads, as well as shrews and moles. While the streams are home to water mongoose, otters, and vlei rat. On the upper grassland slopes live herds of grey rhebok, mountain reedbuck, jackals, black wildebeest, zebra, eland, and blesbuck. There is also a prolific number of bird species here including a breeding colony of Cape vulture, malachite sunbirds, raptors, swallows, and swifts.

Wildlife safaris are conducted in 4-wheel drive vehicles through the mountains of the reserve and led by an expert guide and tracker. A camera trap reveals the nocturnal activities of the predators on the reserve. For a more intimate look at the abundant animals and plant life, a walking safari is the perfect way to see everything up close and in detail. Anglers will enjoy trout fishing in a combination of weirs, lakes, and river catchments. For the more adventurous, mountain biking treks are led by an expert guide and cater to all levels of skills. There is plenty of hiking around the lodge including a walk to a beautiful waterfall where guests can swim in the clean stream. Around the property itself are the relics of an old gold mining company. Another great way to explore the region is via horse back.

The main farmhouse houses up of two stylish and spacious lounges, a dining room, an outside barbeque area, a cozy study with television, a fully equipped snooker room, and a terrace overlooking the tiered trout ponds. An eco-friendly property, owner Michael Rattray has transformed the reserve into a water conservation area to reverse the negative effects of over-grazing and soil erosion.
