Jackalberry Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Located in the heart of the beautiful Thornybush Nature Reserve, Jackalberry Lodge is an oasis of calm and simple elegance set against the dramatic views of the Northern Drakensberg Mountains.

Accommodations at the lodge consist of seven thatched suites. Each suite is stylishly furnished with king-sized beds covered in downy soft linens and draped in billowing mosquito netting. The luxurious en suite bathroom features a double vanity, a deep, corner tub with a stunning view of the outdoors, an indoor shower, and a romantic outdoor shower. The Family Suite includes all the same luxuries and an extra room with two twin beds. While the Honeymoon Suite also comes with a private lounge. In addition, every suite enjoys a private patio with comfortable chairs for relaxing and taking in the beauties of the bush. Additional amenities include a hairdryer, mini bar, tea and coffee station, and a safe.

The lodge is situated in Thornybush Nature Reserve and is adjacent to world-famous Kruger National Park set against the majestic backdrop of the Northern Drakensberg Mountains. Stretching across nearly 25,000 acres of land, Thornybush Game Reserve is located in the eastern Lowveld area. The reserve is home to the Big Five as well as giraffes, antelope, and cheetahs. A favorite spot for many wildlife documentaries, it is home to the first recorded white wildebeest born in the wild. Moreover, the reserve is also one of the first to start rhino-horn treatments to deter poachers.

There are plenty of exciting activities available to choose from. Morning and late afternoon/evening game drives are led by expert rangers and trackers in open land cruisers. Guided bush walks led by an armed ranger allow guests a better chance to see some of the smaller creatures of the bush as well as an opportunity to learn more about the flora and fauna of the region, and to have a chance to follow tracks in more detail. Hot air balloon excursions feature a one-hour long flight over the scenic, lowveld section of the Blyde River. A great cultural tour, the lodge furnishes trips to the HLOKOMELA community project encompassing local initiatives to provide services to the local communities.

The main lodge houses a cozy library and curio shop for those one of a kind souvenirs. Delicious meals are enjoyed al fresco style in the open-air dining room. While the refreshing swimming pool invites guests to cool off during the heat of the day. In the evening, everyone gathers around the boma campfire for a drink and chance to swap stories.
