Phinda Homestead

PLAN MY TRIP

An ideal family safari lodge, Phinda Homestead Lodge supplies modern luxury as it overlooks an extinct volcano and sits in the lush, verdant hills of Phinda Private Reserve.

A sole-use lodge, the camp consists of a private villa with four large suites. Each room is created around Zulu crafts with a contemporary flair. Large sliding windows provide panoramic views of the bush outside and gives a light and airy feel to the room. In fact, each plush double bed is positioned to face the windows. These en suite rooms feature an indoor and outdoor shower. An open deck complete with loungers covered in deep cushions and its own rim-flow pool offer open views and up close encounters with the wildlife, including thirsty elephants bent on drinking from the pool. Other amenities include fans, air-conditioning, in-room safes, Wi-Fi, and mini-bar.

The lodge is located in the Phinda Private Game Reserve, 23,000 hectares of natural beauty and abundant wildlife. The reserve sits between Mkuze Reserve and Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park, a World Heritage site, and is not far from the Indian Ocean. The lodge sits in a unique meeting of riverine and rare sand forest habitats which is home to a huge selection of wildlife, including lion, giraffe, white and black rhino, antelope, elephants, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, and wildebeest, as well as 415 bird species.

The lodge offers a variety of activities. There are two daily game drives, both with excellent chances to spot some of the Big Five game animals. Besides the cheetah, there are several resident lion prides living in the reserve. For an up-close adventure, the lodge furnishes a black rhino tracking expedition on foot and luxury bush walks. Family safaris ensure that accompanying children enjoy a safe and educational safari with their parents. There are also beach and scuba diving safaris to Maputaland, as well as late night turtle adventures in season to watch leatherback and loggerhead turtles lay their eggs on the beach under the light of the moon. Other activities include canoeing and a motor boat cruise on the Mizanine River or arranging a flight over the reserve.

An all-inclusive resort, rates include three meals, soft drinks, local wines, beers, and spirits, as well as refreshment and picnics on game drives. Simple sophistication and attentive staff draw people to this exclusive lodge. A dedicated ranger, tracker, butler, and chef wait on guest’s needs. Delicious cuisine is made to order together or solely by the chef in the interactive kitchen and served in the intimate dining space of a private boma. Wide courtyards and living areas keep the focus on the beauty of the bushlands. The lodge also has a gym.
