South Africa

Franschhoek Country House

PLAN MY TRIP

Franschhoek Country House & Villas is a five-star hotel in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley, South Africa’s famed food and wine capital.

The original 1890 manor house has fourteen well-appointed rooms including six standard rooms, five luxury rooms, and two cottages. Each en suite room features a comfortable bedroom, a lounge area where complementary sherry is enjoyed in the afternoon, and a private balcony or patio. The double story cottages come with an en-suite bedroom downstairs, a private garden & patio area, and separate lounge upstairs with a lovely view over the surrounding vineyards. There are also twelve villa suites available in the Country House. The suites include a separate lounge, bedroom, picturesque bathroom, and two private balconies. Other amenities include a mini bar, Wi-Fi, flat screen T.V., overhead fans, air-conditioning, in-room safe, and tea and coffee maker.

Set against a stunning mountain backdrop, the hotel is located in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley. 300 years ago, French Huguenots fleeing religious persecution settled in the region and planted many of the vineyards. The Valley’s name even means French Corner. As a result, Franschhoek is a small town with impressive culinary offerings ranging from classic French cuisine to contemporary South African restaurants, English pub food, bistro fare, wood-fired pizzas, and more alongside some of the finest wine on the continent. Boutique wineries cater to guests desiring private tastings or simply an introduction to the finer points of wine-tasting. The wineries often offer museums, gardens, farm shops, restaurants, and cellar tours.

Other nearby activities include world-class golfing, four-wheeling, paragliding, hot-air ballooning, horseback riding, and more. Day trips to the Wemmers River let anglers fish for wild brown trout and rainbow trout. For a quieter, more relaxed excursion, book a horse-drawn carriage ride through the local village. For a little more rugged adventure, a bike ride through the town or a strenuous hike up Mont Rochelle. For a less active tour, the nearby Motor Museum on the L’Ormarins wine estate houses an impressive collection of over 100 collector’s cars.

Breakfast is complementary with a stay at the hotel. The hotel’s acclaimed Monneaux Restaurant is a known for its fine wines and contemporary cuisine. Lunch is enjoyed on the fountain terrace under a spreading pepper tree while dinner is served in the elegant yet relaxed dining room in the original manor house. The restaurant has won the American Express Platinum Award for fine dining. The underground cellar is available for private parties. While the restaurant’s bar and lounge are ideal for relaxing with a drink and conversation. The hotel spa has pampering massages, reflexology, facials, manicures, pedicures and signature treatments to choose from. There is also a refreshing pool and fragrant lavender gardens.
