Thornybush Game Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Located within the famous Thornybush Nature Reserve, the five-star Thornybush Game Lodge delivers a luxury safari camp experience.

Accommodations at the lodge consist of eighteen suites and two family suites with lodging available for up to forty people. These spacious air-conditioned suites have large en suite bathrooms furnished with wide windows to watch the wildlife pass by. The bathrooms come with double sinks, a large soaking tub, an indoor shower, and an outdoor shower. The rooms are decorated in calming, earth tones to enhance the tranquil atmosphere and blend into the beauty of the natural surroundings. All the suites have private wooden decks, with comfortable seating, overlooking the reserve and busy waterhole. The family suite has the extra luxury of a plunge pool on the deck.

The lodge is situated in Thornybush Nature Reserve and is adjacent to world-famous Kruger National Park and overlooks the seasonal Monwana River. Stretching across nearly 25,000 acres of land, Thornybush Game Reserve is located in the eastern Lowveld area. The reserve is home to the Big Five as well as giraffes, antelope, and cheetahs. A favorite spot for many wildlife documentaries, it is home to the first recorded white wildebeest born in the wild. Moreover, the reserve is also one of the first to start rhino-horn treatments to deter poachers.

There are plenty of exciting activities available to choose from. Morning and late afternoon/evening game drives are led by expert rangers and trackers in open land cruisers. Guided bush walks led by an armed ranger allow guests a better chance to see some of the smaller creatures of the bush as well as an opportunity to learn more about the flora and fauna of the region, and to have a chance to follow tracks in more detail. Hot air balloon excursions feature a one-hour long flight over the scenic, lowveld section of the Blyde River. A great cultural tour, the lodge furnishes trips to the HLOKOMELA community project encompassing local initiatives to provide services to the local communities.

As the largest lodge of the Thornybush Luxury Game Collection, it’s a popular spot for small groups, weddings, and other special gatherings. For business groups, the lodge hosts a sixty-seat conference center. For a little pampering, the newly constructed Amani African Spa has a wide menu of relaxing treatments to choose from. The lodge is an all-inclusive property. The rates include accommodation, all meals, tea, coffee, snacks, dawn and dusk safaris, optional bushveld walks and sundowner drinks on game drives. For families traveling with small children, babysitting facilities are provided at an additional cost.
