Phinda Rock Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

A Malian and pueblo style lodge set in the cliff face above the Phinda Private Game Reserve, Phinda Rock Lodge is an intimate safari camp with all the luxury, style, and attentive staff of an &Beyond property.

Six secluded suites give an intimate and exclusive feel to the lodge. These rugged adobe style suites all feature an en suite bathroom with deep bathtubs and outdoor showers screened by the lush foliage, it’s like showering in a tropical waterfall. Each suite has its own private, wooden deck and refreshing plunge pool with excellent views of the animals, some of whom are known to come and help themselves to a drink. Other amenities include a personal bar, mosquito netting, ceiling fans, in room safes, fireplace, and air-conditioning.

Sitting high in the face of a craggy cliff, Phinda Rock Lodge provides a clear view of Leopard Rock and the bushveld below. Set within the 23,000 hectacres of the Phinda Private Game Reserve, the lodge enjoys an abundance of wildlife and a diverse range of ecosystems. The reserve sits between Mkuze Reserve and Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park, a World Heritage site, and is not far from the Indian Ocean. It’s elevated position provides amazing views of the surrounding mountains and big game. It’s an especially great place to view and photograph the reintroduced cheetah population.

The lodge offers a variety of activities. There are two daily game drives, both with excellent chances to spot some of the Big Five game animals. Besides the cheetah, there are several resident lion prides living in the reserve. For an up-close adventure, the lodge furnishes a black rhino tracking expedition on foot and luxury bush walks. There are also beach and scuba diving safaris to Maputaland, as well as late night turtle adventures in season to watch leatherback and loggerhead turtles lay their eggs on the beach under the light of the moon. Other activities include canoeing and a motor boat cruise on the Mizanine River or arranging a flight over the reserve. Overnight adventures to sleep under the stars can be booked in advance.

An all-inclusive resort, rates include three meals, soft drinks, local wines, beers, and spirits, as well as refreshment on game drives. Delicious meals are served in the cosy dining room or guests can arrange for a private dinner. A ladder leads to the roof for an unparalleled panoramic view of the reserve. Because of its cliffside location, it is not recommended for children under 12.
