South Africa

Kings Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Situated in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve adjacent to South Africa’s Kruger National Park, Kings Camp reflects the charm and romance of a colonial past in a pristine corner of unspoiled Africa.

Accommodations consist of seven spacious luxury and family suites and two exquisite honeymoon suites. Each colonial-style suite is built from dark woods and thatch to blend in with the bushveld. Each suite comes with an elegant en suite bathroom featuring a ball-and-claw bath and both an indoor and outdoor shower. A private veranda overlooks the bush and provides the perfect spot to relax. Other amenities include air-conditioning, mini-bar, bathrobes, umbrella, and hairdryer. The honeymoon suites have a open-plan lounge and large plunge pool on the veranda. A complimentary sherry and fruit platter adds the final touch of sophistication.

Kings Camp is situated facing an open savanna plain with a waterhole, which is frequented by a wide variety of wildlife, day and night. Kings Camp Private Game Reserve sits within the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve on the western boundary of the world-famous Kruger National Park. Located within both the Mpumalanga and Limpopo Provinces, the reserve was established in 1995 as a premier Eco-tourism destination. In 1992, the western boundary fence separating the Kruger National Park and Timbavati was removed to create a 4.9-million-acre open natural ecosystem that would enhance and promote natural environment. Today this impressive wilderness area is often referred to as the Greater Kruger Conservancy.

Several exciting activities are available from the camp. An expert ranger and tracker lead morning and afternoon game drives in a state of the art open Land Cruiser. While tracking down leopards on the hunt or hippos wallowing in the river, guests can watch the wildlife while being served tea, coffee. and biscuits on their morning game drive and drinks and canapés on their afternoon game drive. After a hearty breakfast, expert guides conduct bush walks for a closer view of the wildlife as well as lessons on tracking and the uses of local plants. For an aerial view, helicopter rides explore the beauty of Blyde Canyon, the third deepest in the world. There are also hot air balloon rides over the reserve. A tour of Hoedspruit Endangered Species Center teaches about their conservation efforts and affords magnificent views of their cheetahs.

The main area of camp houses an open-plan lounge, spacious dining room, bar, library, and a thatched viewing deck overlooking an active waterhole. The spa has a range of relaxing treatment options and the hotel even has a gym. The refreshing swimming pool provides a cool respite from the midday heat. At night, guests gather around the traditional boma for a meal, a drink, and chance to swap stories.
