This country offers spectacular options for any African vacation and has maintained its off-the-beaten-track reputation making it a destination worth the effort.
Water is the main draw to the country as most of its geography consists of low-lying plateau broken up by sizeable rivers that flow into the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Of course, the most famous is the Zambezi. One of the nation’s top destination sites is the Bazaruto Archipelago. It is home to dozens of bird species, including fish eagles and pink flamingos, plus red duikers, bushbucks, and Nile crocodiles. Dolphins, loggerhead turtles, leather-back turtles and green turtles can be seen from the vantage of a graceful white-sailed Dhow. The Quirimbas National Park is best known for its innumerable bird species, rich marine life, gorgeous beaches, and scattered coral islands that have newly developed a small selection of eco-friendly luxury resorts.

Mozambique is also known for a mixture of diverse ecological zones, with jade-green floodplains, grassy savannahs, lush woodlands, forests of fever trees, and stands of palm and hanging vines. Maputo Special Reserve is a stunning wilderness of bushland with a wide array of birds as well as some elephants and smaller wildlife.
The people of Mozambique are open and friendly. While the cuisine benefits from a mixture of traditional African, Portuguese, Indian, and Arabic influences. A trip to Mozambique is fun and full of surprises. Even the regular traveler to Africa will find a vibrant vacation in this vibrant country.
