Marataba Safari Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Located within the game-rich Marakele National Park, Marataba Safari Lodge offers a luxury safari camp experience.

Accommodations at the camp consist of fifteen unique stone and canvas tents for a maximum of thirty people . Each tent is exquisitely decorated and tastefully furnished with polished wood floors and deep-cushioned chairs. These spacious rooms feature double beds that can convert to twins and open-plan bathrooms with outdoor showers. Guests can lounge on their private deck and enjoy the lush, verdant surroundings and sounds of nature. Other amenities include air conditioning, fans, in-room safe, hairdryers, mini bar, tea/coffee, heated floor, dressing gowns, and a fridge.

The Marataba Safari Lodge is situated in the private Marakele National Park, just a three-hour drive from Johannesburg. This fifty-seven-thousand-acre reserve sits at the foothills of the Waterberg Mountains. Moreover, it is a malaria risk-free area. The park hosts one of the world’s largest breeding colonies of the endangered Cape Vulture. Large predators such as brown hyena, leopard and now also lion, occur in the park. Kudu, elephants, and a variety of antelope roam the reserve too. In the future, a range of iron-age sites will be made available to the public.

A variety of exciting activities are available at the lodge. An unhurried cruise along the Matlabas River on Miss Mara provides great views of an abundance of bird life and grunting hippos as well as the chance to eat delicious pastries, canapés, hot chocolate, and gin and tonics. Daily morning and late afternoon game drives take guests on a three to four-hour tour of the national park. Since there are only five vehicles out at a time on this private reserve, chances of seeing another vehicle are slim leaving the beauty of the bush to be enjoyed in peace and quiet except for the calls of the resident wildlife. Guided bush walks offer a closer view of the bush. Sunset river cruises are a romantic way to end the days as the sun reflects off the waters.

The main lodge offers a comfortable lounge area with a fireplace. The swimming pool is the perfect place for cooling off after a long, dusty adventure. All meals and twice-daily game drives are included in the rates. An open dining room serves up delicious foods and lovely views of the bush. Children’s activities and babysitting services are available for families with small children. Complimentary Wi-fi is accessible from the guest areas. For those who need a little extra pampering, the spa features a wide variety of decadent treatments to choose from.
