Phinda Mountain Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Perched high above the Phinda Reserve floor, Phinda Mountain Lodge provides thrilling views of the Lebombo Mountains and Lake St. Lucia all with the luxury and comfort expected of the &Beyond properties.

25 split-level luxury suites are deliberately staggered along the mountainside in a horseshoe shaped building so that no lodge blocks another and gives a perfect view of the spectacular mountains above and bush lands below. Each suite has a large sitting room on one floor and bedroom on another. The large en suite bathrooms have outdoor showers. Guests can lounge and relax in scenic splendor on their own private verandah or cool off in their plunge pool. A child-friendly property, the hotel offers a family suite and 3 family cottages with connecting rooms and an extra bed.

The lodge is located in the Phinda Private Game Reserve, 23,000 hectares of natural beauty and abundant wildlife. The reserve sits between Mkuze Reserve and Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park, a World Heritage site, and is not far from the Indian Ocean. Its elevated position provides amazing views of the surrounding mountains and big game. It’s an especially great place to view and photograph the reintroduced cheetah population.

The lodge offers a variety of activities. There are two daily game drives, both with excellent chances to spot some of the Big Five game animals. Besides the cheetah, there are several resident lion prides living in the reserve. For an up-close adventure, the lodge furnishes a black rhino tracking expedition on foot and luxury bush walks. Family safaris ensure that accompanying children enjoy a safe and educational safari with their parents. There are also beach and scuba diving safaris to Maputaland, as well as late night turtle adventures in season to watch leatherback and loggerhead turtles lay their eggs on the beach under the light of the moon. Other activities include canoeing and a motor boat cruise on the Mizanine River, arranging a flight over the reserve, or a cultural tour of a Zulu village.

An all-inclusive resort, rates include three meals, soft drinks, local wines, beers, and spirits, as well as refreshment on game drives. Al-fresco meals are served on the tiered veranda or covered dining room, all with uninterrupted views of the Ubomba Mountains. Calories can be burned traversing the paved pathways winding from the guest areas around the mountainside.

Extra amenities at the lodge include safari shop for one of a kind souvenirs. Babysitting services and the &Beyond Wild Child program are available for families with young children.
