Waterbuck Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Ideally located adjacent to a water estuary in the southern part of the Thornybush Private Reserve, Waterbuck Game Lodge is a homey and comfortable oasis with a wide diversity of wildlife nearby.

A small and intimate lodge, there are only four luxury suites for up to eight guests. Each spacious and air-conditioned suite boasts a large dressing area and magnificent views of the bush. The large en suite bathroom features a deep bath and both an indoor and outdoor shower. While the comfortable lounge and dining area opens up into a private deck with a refreshing swimming pool, tanning deck, and bar area. Additional amenities include a hair dryer, mini bar, in-room safe, laundry service, and a tea and coffee maker.

The lodge is situated in Thornybush Nature Reserve and is adjacent to world-famous Kruger National Park set against the majestic backdrop of the Northern Drakensberg Mountains. Stretching across nearly 25,000 acres of land, Thornybush Game Reserve is located in the eastern Lowveld area. The reserve is home to the Big Five as well as giraffes, antelope, and cheetahs. A favorite spot for many wildlife documentaries, it is home to the first recorded white wildebeest born in the wild. Moreover, the reserve is also one of the first to start rhino-horn treatments to deter poachers.

There are plenty of exciting activities available to choose from. Morning and late afternoon/evening game drives are led by expert rangers and trackers in open land cruisers. Guided bush walks led by an armed ranger allow guests a better chance to see some of the smaller creatures of the bush as well as an opportunity to learn more about the flora and fauna of the region, and to have a chance to follow tracks in more detail. Hot air balloon excursions feature a one-hour long flight over the scenic, lowveld section of the Blyde River. A great cultural tour, the lodge furnishes trips to the HLOKOMELA community project encompassing local initiatives to provide services to the local communities.

The warm and cozy main lodge area is close to the waterhole and houses a lounge, dining area, and a library. The lodge’s pool invites guests to cool off during the heat of the day after a long game drive. While at night, everyone gathers around the traditional boma campfire for a drink and chance to discuss the day’s adventures.
