Tuningi

PLAN MY TRIP

Situated in the beautiful Madikwe Game Reserve, Tuningi Safari Lodge provides 5-star accommodation in an exclusive and private setting.

The ‘Colonial African chic’ thatched lodge accommodates 16 guests in four spacious luxury suites and two family suites. The elegant rooms are furnished in timber with soft, warm hues giving the rooms a comfortable, organic feel. The enormous bathrooms not only have a fireplace, but an oversized bath with fabulous views and a private alfresco outdoor rock shower. They family suites are made-up of two en-suite double bedrooms, and are joined by a dining area, kitchenette, and a living room. Air-conditioning and ceiling fans cool the rooms in the heat of the day while cozy, gas fireplaces take the chill away from cold nights. Each suite has a comfortable lounge area and private wrap-around decks with views of the valley and abundant roaming wildlife. Additional amenities include a mini bar, robe, slippers, in-room safe, tea/coffee facilities, and mammal and bird guide books.

Built on Madikwe’s rolling slopes, the lodge is situated in the 75, 000 hectare Madikwe Game Reserve, one of the few reserves in southern Africa to be malaria free. It is a transition region between low-veld bushveld and the Kalahari thornveld and plays host to a tremendous diversity of fauna and flora including the black and white rhino, buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, and wild dog. Thanks to conservation efforts the reserve has been painstakingly restored from arid, cattle grazing land to its rich natural environment.

Many exciting activities are offered from the lodge. Morning and afternoon game drives utilize state of the art, open Land Cruisers and expert guides to enhance the views of the Big Five. Walking safaris with an armed and highly qualified ranger provide a more detailed view of the bush as guests are taught how to track animals, as well as pointing out colorful insects, flora, and fauna missed from the vehicles. Children over the age of five can go on their first game drive called a bumble. These short one hour drives to a waterhole give kids a safe and educational way to experience the wilds of Africa. The lodge also has photographic safaris dedicated to capturing that perfect digital memory.

The main entertainment and reception area has a comfortable lounge, a spacious dining room, and a well-stocked bar and wine cellar. It also overlooks an active watering hole that provides fantastic game viewing from the safety of the deck. Guests can relax and unwind in the refreshing rim flow pool complete with comfy loungers. The lodge is linked by a sweeping wooden pool deck and walkway that leads to a boma under an ancient sprawling Fig Tree, from which Tuningi derives its name. The boma affords the perfect spot for outdoor dinners and log fires. A library, Wi-Fi, satellite television keep everyone entertained when not off on an adventure. The lodge prides itself on being kid-friendly and has lots of activities for the little ones from treasure hunts to education talks and build-your-own pizzas.
