Madikwe Safari Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Set in an undulating landscape punctuated by enormous volcanic intrusions known as Inselbergs, Madikwe Safari Lodge has not one but three individual lodges to choose from.

Three, unique lodges make up Madikwe Safari Lodge. Family-friendly, Lelapa Lodge consists of twelve luxury suites boasting a lounge with a fireplace, a covered deck, a wooden viewing deck with outdoor shower, an additional deck surrounding a private pool, and an en-suite bathroom with shower, bathtub, toilet, and double vanity. Kopano Lodge, or “small gathering” lodge, provides a more intimate experience with only four suites and a beautiful common area. The walkway from the main lodge and boma leads to the private, luxury suites that have all the amenities of the Lelapa suites. Located higher on the mountain, Dithaba Lodge is perfect for families or small groups with its four suites. Each suite has a double bed, private plunge pool, air-conditioning, fireplace, ceiling fan, outdoor shower, safe, and mini bar.

Located in South Africa’s 185,000-acre Madikwe Reserve, this luxury lodge partners with local communities to protect and enhance the region’s natural sanctuaries for both abundant wildlife and visiting guests to enjoy for many years to come. As a malaria-free area, the reserve offers diverse wildlife populations, particularly the well-known “big five”: lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo. Rich mammal biodiversity includes wild dog, brown and spotted hyena, oryx, eland, springbok, ostrich, and more. Birdwatchers relish the over 350 bird species that flourish in the area, and the Dwarsberg Mountain Range provides a magnificently beautiful backdrop.

Twice-daily game drives provide dramatic opportunities for guests to come face to face with some of the Madikwe Reserve’s most thrilling creatures. In addition to exciting game drives, there are also bush breakfasts, picnic lunches, and bush dinners. Visits to the local community village and ecology house provide a unique perspective on the region’s history. Other activities include bush walks for a more intimate look at the flora and fauna and birdwatching. Lepala offers family safari drives, bush orientation, and game nights. The kids look forward to bug CSI, track pack with plaster of Paris, baking in the kitchen, making pizzas in the boma, and more.

Each of the three properties has its own main lodge with an open-lounge and dining area. Meals are simple and delicious using local ingredients. There are kid’s menus available to cater to younger palates. The properties are kid-friendly except for Dithaba unless it is booked exclusively. Eco House is an entertainment and educational center where kids can partake in painting, drawing, making location specific models and arts, and get to experience some of the live specimens from the reserve. Parents can stay and play or steal away for an adults-only adventure. The health spa has a range of relaxing treatments available.
