Noka Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

With activities both on land and on water, Noka Camp provides guests with a well-rounded and authentic encounter with Africa’s iconic wilderness.

Made up of just four standard villas and one family villa, Noka Camp offers an intimate safari experience. Each villa is raised off the ground on a wooden deck that extends into a veranda over the river. Wide sliding glass doors and windows in the back of the villa invite the wilderness inside, especially from the en suite bathroom’s sunken bath, double indoor shower, and panoramic outdoor shower. Air conditioning, a coffee station, a hairdryer, and underfloor heating bring modern amenities to the rugged wilderness, and the contemporary nature-inspired décor blends the two artfully together.

Positioned on a cliff overlooking a lush valley and the winding Palala River, the camp is the perfect place to soak in the beauty and wildness of South Africa from high above ground. Although appropriately remote for an authentic safari destination, Noka Camp’s location only a few hours’ drive from Johannesburg makes it accessible for any traveler. The Lapalala Wilderness area is a heavily protected wildlife reserve that is focused on conservation and sustainable tourism.

Bush walks and game drives across the wilderness showcase the beauty and complexity of Lapalala’s ecosystem. Adventurous guests can fish along the riverbanks below the camp, or even join a conservation veterinarian experience to learn about protecting native wildlife. Visits to the nearby ancient Bushman rock paintings tell of the history of the area. Visitors can take advantage of the camp’s remote location (and its lack of light pollution) to gaze at the crystal-clear stars on a guided astronomy experience.

Noka Camp can be booked exclusively for a wholly private safari experience perfect for larger groups. Heated private plunge pools, a treetop gym area, yoga sessions, and spa treatments blend the adventurous atmosphere of the camp with the ideal relaxation of a true wilderness retreat. To run sustainably, very little of the camp touches the ground, hugely reducing the physical impact of the camp on the landscape. The camp also uses solar energy, supports various carbon offset programs, and works with various conservation groups to preserve the environment guests enjoy.
