Loapi Tented Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Loapi Tented Camp is surrounded by open savanna grasslands in the valley of the Korannaberg Mountains.

Loapi Tented Camp is comprised of four vast one-bedroom homes and two two-bedroom homes. These homes are designed for those desiring complete privacy on safari. Each unit is tucked into the contours of a valley between the Korannaberg mountains, on the private Tswalu Kalahari Reserve. The homes are secluded from one another to ensure complete privacy and solitude. A dedicated butler provides personal service, a private chef prepares all meals in the unit’s interactive kitchen, and activities are with your own private guide and tracker.

Tswalu Kalahari Reserve extends across nearly 400 square miles of the Kalahari Desert in northern South Africa. The area was restored to its natural habitat by owner Nicky Oppenheimer of the De Beers family. In truth, the Kalahari belies its desert name as it is more semi-arid grassland than true desert. Its diverse habitat supports over eighty mammal species and nearly 250 bird species. Many species of antelope as well as buffalo and white rhino make their homes in the reserve. Rarer mammals include the desert black rhino, roan, sable, Tsessebe, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, and Kalahari lions. Kalahari lions are bigger than their counterparts elsewhere in Africa and are famous for their beautiful manes.

Guests of Loapi have access to a variety of activities on the reserve, in addition to daily game drives. A morning bush walk with a knowledgeable guide takes a more intimate look at the flora and fauna. Night walks offer the chance to spot such nocturnal animals as aardvark, aardwolf, porcupine, and brown hyena. For a unique view of the desert, horseback safaris allow guests to explore the dunes and savannas on well-mannered horses, which are suitable for all ages and all levels of experience. For the kids, a Junior Ranger program starts of by giving each child a backpack with guides and tools. They can make their own bow and arrow for archery, learn how to identify spoor, and track the wildlife that live here.
