Xugana Island Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Perched on the banks of the spectacular Xugana Lagoon in the heart of Botswana’s Okavango Delta is Xugana Island Lodge.

Secluded on a private concession and accommodating a maximum of twelve guests, Xugana Island Lodge provides unmatched privacy. The eight resident chalets are built on raised wooden platforms. These reed and thatch suites come with an en-suite bathroom featuring a double sink, flush toilet, and lagoon-facing shower. For added privacy, each suite also has a private teak deck with magnificent views all accessed by sliding glass doors. Other amenities include fans, bathrobes, tea and coffee facilities, hair dryer, flashlight, and umbrella for the rainy season.

The lodge sits on a wooded island next to Xugana Lagoon, renowned for its breathtaking beauty. As the waters of the Okavango River empty into the thirsty sands of the Kalahari, they create a paradise of lagoons, channels, and lakes that are home to some of the highest concentrations and varieties of wildlife in the world. Elephant, zebra, lion, ample wild dog, hippo and various antelope can all be spotted within the lagoon’s concession. The lagoon also boasts an abundance of bird life from species like the African fish eagle, Pel’s fishing owl, crested crane, and lilac breasted roller.

Xugana Island Lodge features water safaris that allow guests to explore the lakes and channels of the delta via motorboat or traditional mokoro, a dug-out canoe steered by a poler. This is the best way to see resident hippos, crocodiles, bathing elephants, and a vast array of waterfowl. Nature walks are led by expert guides for a closer, more intimate look at the flora and fauna of the Delta. Anglers will enjoy the catch and release fishing of many species from tilapia to the famed tigerfish.

The main area of camp boasts an expansive deck and al fresco dining area overlooking the vast, clear body of water that makes up the permanent Okavango Delta. Set back under the shady, natural canopy of ebony and mangosteen trees, the lounge, bar and dining areas provide the perfect spots to relax or enjoy a gourmet meal. The camp’s refreshing swimming pool is located within a lush, mature garden in the center of the island and is a cool paradise during the heat of the day.
