Pom Pom Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Located in the heart of the Okavango Delta on Pom Pom island, Pom Pom Camp is a luxury safari camp set within a private concession.

Accommodations at the camp consist of nine elegant safari tents positioned under the shade of the surrounding trees. Each tent comes with either two twin beds or one king-sized bed. The en suite bathroom features a sink, a flush toilet, and a romantic outdoor shower. The family tent is conveniently positioned near the main lodge and can house up to two adults and two children comfortably. A private deck overlooks the Pom Pom lagoon and provides the perfect spot to relax with a morning coffee.

The camp is ideally situated in the world-famous Okavango Delta. Known as the “jewel of the Kalahari” the flood waters cover an area of over anywhere from 9,000 square miles in the drier season to 13,000 square miles in the wetter season. As part of the African Rift Valley System its geography has resulted in the ‘capture’ of the Okavango River that has formed the Delta and its extensive waterways, swamps, flooded grasslands, and floodplains. Not surprisingly, this oasis attracts some of the world’s highest concentrations of wildlife, including all the quintessential African mammals from lion to elephant to hippo to giraffe to rhino to zebra as well as crocodiles, hyena, cheetah, leopard, sable antelope, buffalo, zebra, warthog, and chacma baboon. The delta is also the home of hundreds of bird species as well.

There are many exciting activities available at the camp. Morning and evening game drives are available within the private concession area and are conducted in comfortable 4×4 vehicles with the help of a knowledgeable guide. Guided bush walks take a closer look at the animals and plant life of Chief’s Island with the knowledge and assistance of a personal guide. The best way to observe the papyrus lined banks of the Okavango is in a mokoro, a traditional dug-out canoe steered by a long pole, Botswana’s version of the gondola. Fishing trips are available at the camp and a guide will assist guests as they try to catch African pike and a variety of tilapia.

The camp is set in the tree line overlooking the beautiful Pom Pom lagoon. The attractive main camp is constructed of thatch and canvas and houses a dining room, bar, curio shop, and lounge. The camp’s refreshing swimming pool is the perfect respite for a hot afternoon and includes a sun deck. At night, everyone gathers around the inviting and traditional boma camp fire for a drink and a chance to swap stories of the day’s adventures.
