Botswana

North Island Okavango

PLAN MY TRIP

Nestled on a private island in the northern reaches of Botswana's legendary Okavango Delta, this camp embodies the essence of an iconic delta experience.

North Island Okavango has only three tented rooms. Each is spacious and is constructed on raised wooden decks that offer spectacular views of the lagoon. Each tent room has an en-suite bathroom, an outside shower, a fireplace, a private patio with a pool, and an over-the-bed cooling system for those warm summer afternoons. Because the camp accommodates only six guests, you can expect an exceptionally exclusive experience.

North Island Okavango is tucked away on an island known locally as Xuxuga. The island is shaded under old growth ebony trees and is surrounded by the diverse habitats. These northern reaches of the Okavango Delta feature seasonal floodplains, permanent waterways, woodland, and open savannah. This area is the first to get the annual floodwaters, which allows for exceptional water-based activities.

North Island Okavango offers all the quintessential Okavango Delta activities. The primary activity is of course morning and afternoon game drives, which traverse some of the best wildlife terrain in all of Southern Africa, not to mention the birding. Guests can also enjoy safari walks with expert guides or boating in the narrow channels via motorized boat or traditional dugout canoe known as “mokoro.”

There are also excellent catch-and-release fishing opportunities from April through December. Even farther from the norm, guests can visit Tsodilo Hills and its famous ancient rock art or take a hot air balloon flight over the green waterways below.
