Botswana

King’s Pool Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Located in northern Botswana and forming the western border of Chobe National Park, the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve is home to the luxurious King's Pool Camp.

Accommodations at the camp consist of nine canvas and thatch tents. There are eight twin bedded tents and one king size bedded tent available plus a family tent consisting of two bedrooms with their own bathroom and an inter-connected walkway. Each tent features a spacious bedroom with en-suite bathroom with an indoor and outdoor shower. In addition to which, the tents enjoy their own open-air pavilion and private plunge pool and jacuzzi from which to relax and take in the stunning views, maybe even spot an elephant strolling past.

The camp overlooks King’s Pool Lagoon, which is named for a Scandinavian king who enjoyed camping on its banks long ago. The camp is located in the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve and borders on Chobe National Park. The area is comprised of wetlands, grasslands, floodplains, and islands, and displays a variety of wildlife year-round. In fact, Linyanti Wildlife Reserve is most famous for its very large elephant population especially during the dry winter months. Other wildlife living here include impala, lechwe, kudu, zebra, giraffe, buffalo and bushbuck, and their predators: lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, and spotted hyena.

The camp has a wide variety of activities available. Adventurers can embark on day or night game drives in custom 4×4 vehicles. Nature walks led by an expert guide and armed guard provide a closer look at the landscape and smaller animals. Seasonal barge cruises along the Linyanti River on the colonial-style Queen Sylvia barge after the perfect way to enjoy a sundowner and view the aquatic wildlife, especially the large population of birds. Plus, King’s Pool Camp has two hides from which guests can view wildlife; one of these unique hides is underground, with the lagoon waters at eye level, allowing for an up-close-and-personal view of elephant feet and zebra stripes. Anglers can enjoy some catch and release fishing too.

The lounge and dining areas are built on large decks overlooking the lagoon. The common area includes a quaint curio shop, pub, swimming pool, and an open-air ‘kgotla’ for evening dining under the stars. Private in-tent massages are available for some added relaxation. An eco-friendly property, the camp relies on solar power to reduce its carbon footprint.
