Chief’s Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Hailed by leading travel magazines: Condé Nast and Travel & Leisure as one of Botswana’s top safari destinations, Sanctuary Chief’s Camp will not disappoint even the most discerning traveler.

Accommodations at the camp consist of twelve elegant and spacious bush pavilions with the added comfort of air conditioning and ceiling fans. Each room features an en suite bathroom with an indoor and outdoor shower and large soaking tubs. For even more comfort, the rooms include generous seating areas, romantically draped beds, and clean-lined, classic décor with an African flair. For added privacy, each room enjoys its own covered deck complete with a private dining area and a refreshing terrace pool, the perfect spot to relax and spot an elephant grazing nearby. In addition, the camp provides other amenities such as hairdryer, ceiling fan, room safe, emergency intercom, and minibar.

The camp was once the former royal hunting reserve of Chief Moremi, in the heart of the Okavango Delta. Now Chief’s Island is the only area in the Okavango Delta that is home to the black and white rhino as well as the rest of Africa’s “big five”: lion, leopard, buffalo, and elephant. Known as the “predator capital of Africa,” the surrounding area is also home to genet cat, hyena, and the extremely rare African wild dog as well as zebra, antelope, giraffe, impala, and over 500 species of birds.

To view these awe-inspiring animals in their habitat, experienced and well-trained guides lead game drives in both morning and evening. Specially modified open 4×4 vehicles provide safe and exceptional game viewing opportunities, while local dugout canoes known as mokoro are the ideal way to explore the lagoons and waterways. A magical experience, mokoro excursions with an expert local guide allow guests to leisurely discover lily-filled lagoons for hippo, crocodile, and other animals. Scenic helicopter flights are a way for safari-goers to experience the vast expanse of wildlife and landscape that flourishes in the Okavango Delta.

The main areas of the camp have been extensively refurbished in a ‘safari chic’ style including a newly designed bar and library area. Dining options abound, with both continental and full English breakfasts offered daily as well as delectable lunches, high tea, and memorable dinners. There’s even a new pizza deck housing a new pizza oven. At the end of the day, sundowners are enjoyed around the nearby boma (fire pit). In addition, the main area houses a spa treatment room, bar, curio shop, library, and reception area.
