Xudum Okavango Delta Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Overlooking a seasonal lagoon, Xudum Okavango Delta Camp tempts guests with its earthy glamor and playful extras.

Accommodations at the camp consist of nine creatively designed safari suites, all split-level and all overlooking the lagoon. Each suite is air-conditioned and comes with a spacious en suite bathroom featuring a large bathtub and al fresco outdoor shower. Private rooftop hideouts yield superb views of this watery wilderness and the hippo below. The suites are luxuriously appointed in rich tones of chocolate and ebony furnishings and feature private plunge pools and an upper deck on which to dine or take in the extraordinary views.

Xudum is located on a private 62,000-acre concession within the channels and lagoons of the southern seasonal part of the world-famous Okavango Delta. The Okavango Delta is the largest inland delta in the world. The camp itself is beautifully surrounded by a mosaic of papyrus and reed beds. These lush waterways are perfect for small creatures and rare birds like the Pel’s fishing owl. Elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo, and elusive leopard all reside in the floodplains. Apart from Africa’s “Big Five,” cheetah and African wild dog may also be spotted. Dainty sitatunga and red lechwe antelope have adapted to walk on the floating reed beds.

Twice daily game drives in an open air 4×4 safari vehicle are accompanied by an armed guide and an expert tracker. Bush walks are perhaps the most authentic way to experience the Okavango. An armed guide leads the way and imparts knowledge about the local flora and fauna. River cruises in an electrically powered “eco-boat” or a mokoro, traditional dug-out canoe steered by a long pole, explore the network of channels and waterways fringed by dense reeds and papyrus. Not forgetting the kids, the WILDChild Program has specially designed interactive programs just for them.

Known for its earthy charms, the central guest area is made from rough-hewn and chunky timber and artfully decorated with recycled materials. Recycled beer cans are strung from the ceiling, mokoro benches carved from rough wood invite guests to sit, and tractor tire swings entice everyone young and old to come swing under a tree. The lounge has plump sofas to curl up on. While an interactive kitchen lets everyone in on the culinary adventure of each delicious meal. There is even a safari shop selling chic outdoor gear, as well as beautiful African art and jewelry. A family- friendly camp, there are babysitters available upon request.
