Okuti

PLAN MY TRIP

Perched on the banks of the Maunachira River in the Moremi Game Reserve, Okuti is a prime luxury location for the adventurous pleasure-seeker.

The accommodations at Okuti were refurbished in 2014. There are five luxury curved tents called mosasas and two family suites all built on raised teak decks. Each room has twin beds and features an en suite bathroom with an indoor and outdoor shower, hot and cold running water, and flush toilet. In addition to which, the honeymoon unit has a double bed and bathtub. While the family suites have two bedrooms with a shared bathroom. Each of these reed houses enjoys a private veranda with gorgeous views of the river.

The camp is situated in the Moremi Game Reserve which is known for its abundant wildlife. Both black and white rhino have recently been re-introduced to the Reserve. Located in the central and eastern areas of the Okavango, Moremi encompasses a diverse array of terrain from floodplains, waterways, lagoons, pools, pans, grasslands and riparian, riverine, and mophane forests. Many animals live here including zebras, Angolan giraffes, Cape buffaloes, hyenas, red lechwe, lions, leopards, African wild dogs, and cheetahs as well as nearly 500 species of birds. The Maunachira River which flows in front of the camp towards the Xakanaxa Lagoon is rich with birdlife and fish.

There are plenty of activities available at the camp. Daily game viewing in the Moremi Game Reserve is ideal in all seasons due to the presence of water year-round, and a 4×4 open-air safari vehicle is the primary means by which guests can experience unique sightings of a magnificent array of wildlife. Taking advantage of the waterways, the camp has mokoro rides in traditional dug-out canoes steered by log poles or a motorboat cruise. This is the best way to explore the river and lagoon with its hippos, crocodiles, and myriads of birds especially stork and heron during the breeding season.

The main area of camp has a bar, dining room, and lounge with excellent views of the river. There is also an open deck for evenings around the campfire. Raised wooden walkways connect the suites to the main camp. The camp’s pool is perfect for cooling off during the afternoon sun after an exciting day’s adventure. Okuti welcomes children age seven and up on their exciting safari experience.
