Botswana

Tuli Safari Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Set between a beautiful sandstone ridge and the Limpopo River, Tuli Safari Lodge presents a unique version of Botswana more reminiscent of Namibia’s rocky plains.

Accommodations at the lodge consist of ten luxury suites. There are eight tented suites draped in traditional canvas over timber frames and elevated on wooden decks. These spacious, airy rooms are elegantly furnished with an island bed and comfy lounge. The en suite bathroom features a free-standing bath, double vanity, and flush toilet. The lodge also has two classic suites with solid walls, a thatched roof, and air-conditioning as well as all the same comforts of the tented suites. The suites open up onto a shaded veranda fitted out with canvas chairs for viewing the spectacular scenery in peace and privacy.

The lodge is located in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve. The reserve lies in the east of Botswana where the great Limpopo and Shashe Rivers converge. This exceptionally diverse landscape includes wide open plains, grassland, riverine forests, rocky hills, marshland, and majestic sandstone ridges. The reserve is home to no less than seven of Africa’s “giants” – the African elephant, the lion, giraffe, the baobab tree, the eland, ostrich, and the kori bustard. In fact, there are over 350 species of birds found hereabouts. Nearby, archeologists have discovered evidence of middle and late stone age tools as well as the dinosaur footprints of Vhembe and Sentinel which are estimated to be 50-100 million years old.

The lodge offers many exciting activities including daily morning and afternoon game drives through the reserve conducted by their expert field guides. The guided morning game walks provide a more in-depth view of the area and include lessons on local geology, history, and birding. Cultural tours take guests to the local village for a unique opportunity to meet the local chief, visit the school, buy locally made arts and crafts, and examine one of the rock art sites. After dinner, a night game drive allows visitors to spy on the nocturnal antics of the local wildlife. There are even half day trips available to the confluence of the Limpopo and Shashe rivers.

The lodge’s extensive grounds create a verdant oasis just a few degrees cooler than the rest of the reserve. Besides a lounge, restaurant, and bar, the lodge also features a curio shop for those unique souvenirs and gifts. The large swimming pool even has a shallow section for the kids. The star deck sits atop one of the sandstone kopjes and is the perfect place for a sundowner. Additional amenities include a kiddies club and complimentary laundry service.
