Mashatu Tented Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

For travelers seeking a more intimate and one-on-one bush experience, Mashatu Tented Camp in the Mashatu Game Reserve provides the perfect safari escape.

The tented camp is located forty-five minutes from the main camp. Accommodations consist of eight exclusive tents placed on concrete bases and tucked under the shade of ancient trees. Each tent includes a spacious sleeping area. The tents also feature an en suite bathroom with a private outdoor shower and toilet. A shaded outdoor veranda is the ideal spot to relax and watch the beauties of the bush or enjoy a good book before dinner.

The camp is situated in the Mashatu Game Reserve and comprises some 72,000 acres in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve of Botswana. The reserve lies in the east of Botswana where the great Limpopo and Shashe Rivers converge. This exceptionally diverse landscape includes wide open plains, grassland, riverine forests, rocky hills, marshland, and majestic sandstone ridges. The reserve is home to no less than seven of Africa’s “giants” – the African elephant, the lion, giraffe, the baobab tree, the eland, ostrich, and the kori bustard. There are over 350 species of birds. Nearby, archeologists have discovered evidence of middle and late stone age tools as well as the dinosaur footprints of Vhembe and Sentinel which are estimated to be 50-100 million years old.

There are many exciting activities available at the camp. Morning and afternoon game drives led by expert guides explore the reserve and its big game animals. Walking safaris are tailor-made to suit the disposition of the client and provides a more detailed look at the flora and fauna.

Limpopo Valley Horse Safaris is honored with the reputation of having the finest schooled horses on the African continent and have a combination of horse safaris to choose from. There is nothing more breathtaking than galloping on horseback alongside herds of antelope, over the wild open plains of Mashatu. Cycle safaris take in the reserve on mountain bike with either single day or three-day safaris available. The camp also has two photographic hides in selected sites plus a mobile hide on the reserve.

A relaxed atmosphere permeates the camp and invites camaraderie with fellow travelers. Meal are served either in the open-air thatched gazebo, or in the boma overlooking the floodlit, well-populated waterhole. The camp’s refreshing plunge pool provides a welcome respite from the afternoon heat.
