Eagle Island Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Eagle Island Lodge in Botswana’s iconic Okavango Delta offers an extremely luxurious safari experience.

Accommodation at the camp consists of eleven twin-bedded, en-suite thatched tents and one private suite on raised decks with views over the lagoon. The tents have a fully stocked mini bar, four poster bed with mosquito netting, air conditioning, and private decks with hammocks. The private suite has an extended viewing deck with two relaxing sun loungers as well as a heated splash pool. Plus, the suite has open-air showers and a beautiful copper-framed Victorian bath with the tree canopy for a roof. As a bonus, guests who book the suite can enjoy game-viewing in a private vehicle with their own personal guide.

Belmond Eagle Island Lodge enjoys a privileged position on a private island at the heart of the Okavango Delta. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the area consists of endlessly changing channels, tributaries and lagoons as well as floodplains, islands, and mainland areas. The lodge itself overlooks a wonderful lagoon that attracts a fantastic variety of big game and exotic birds. There is an abundance of bird and aquatic wildlife nearby with a large assortment of larger mammals such as elephant, buffalo, hippo, crocodile, as well as the ever-elusive big cats.

In this part of the Okavango, some activities are at the mercy of the water levels. Game drives are most probable during the months of November through March, when water levels are lower. Unique walking safaris are always available. Bird-watching is a favorite activity with nearly 400 bird species. The delta offers world class birding and includes prized species such as Pel’s fishing-owl, black coucal, long-toed plover, brown fire finch, and African fish eagle. Additional activities include a spectacular 45-minute scenic helicopter flight above the delta, special photographic expeditions into the bush, and fishing excursions onto the river for tilapia, pike, and catfish.

The main lodge has many amenities including a satellite phone, a 20-meter swimming pool, a curio shop, a high-powered telescope for star gazing, same-day laundry service, and a private airstrip and helicopter landing pad. Dining at Eagle Island is as delicious as the views are magnificent. The kitchen offers something for everyone all day and even packs yummy picnics to be enjoyed on a game drive.
