Into the Wilderness

PLAN MY TRIP

Traveling through the southernmost fault lines of Africa’s iconic Great Rift Valley: the fascinating wetland of the Okavango and the riverine woodlands of the Linyanti River, Into the Wilderness is an exciting journey in fully-serviced, luxury tent camps.

This exciting exploration runs from June through October. Each departure requires a minimum of two people with a maximum of seven for an intimate party of travelers. Due to some rigorous activities and the nature of the journey, it is not recommended for children under the age of twelve. This thrilling six night/seven day adventure begins in Maun where guest board a light aircraft bound for the pristine Xigera Concession on a remote island deep in the Okavango Delta before and ends in Maun.

The journey kicks off in the Xigera Concession. Days one through three will be spent here exploring the concession via boat, mokoro (a traditional canoe paddled with long poles), game drives, and nature walks. Animal sightings in the concession include the water-loving red lechwe, spotted-necked otter, elephant, and tsessebe along with the elusive sitatunga. Some of the predators living in the region are the leopard and spotted hyena. Days four through six begin with a morning game drive in the Xigera before transferring by light aircraft to Linyanti Tented Camp. The next few days will explore the game-rich floodplains of the Linyanti River, a region known for its large elephant population. This area can also be excellent for the rarely-seen aardvark and aardwolf.

While this journey will bring adventurers closer to nature, it does not mean they need to give up their creature comforts. The first three nights will be spent in the Xigera Camp, pronounced Keejera which is nestled on the aptly named Paradise Island. The camp consists of luxury tents on raised platforms with en suite bathrooms featuring double sinks, flushing toilets, and outdoor showers, as well as a private viewing deck. There is also a comfy lounge, dining tent, bar and small plunge pool. The last three nights will be spent in the exclusive Linyanti Tented Camp. Its four large, airy, and en-suite tents are built on slightly raised decks and mimic the style of the early explorers. The lounge, bar, and dining tent all overlook the beautiful and game-rich Linyanti Marsh.

The rates include the accommodations, all meals, a reasonable amount of soft drinks, water, house wine and beer, as well as local spirits such as gin and Amarula, national park fees, all scheduled activities, internal chartered flights, and transfers. An environmentally friendly company who believes in giving back to the local community,, they support several projects including using only solar power at the Xigera Camp as well as conservation projects that help protect species on the IUCN Red List such as the African wild dog, elephant, lion, and roan antelope.
