Kwara Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Kwara Camp is set on a beautiful lagoon in the remote north of Botswana’s iconic Okavango Delta, within the private Kwara Concession.

Accommodations at the camp consist of eight twin-bedded luxury safari-style tents that are built on teak decks under the forest canopy. The tents are constructed on wooden platforms and have raised balconies with comfortable lounge chairs that overlook either the lagoon or the floodplain. Large windows and sliding doors add to the open feel and panoramic views. Each tent features comfortable beds, quality linens, and an en-suite bathroom with flush toilet, double washbasins, and an outside shower. The honeymoon tent includes a romantic claw-foot tub.

The camp is situated in the Kwara Concession within the Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known as the “jewel of the Kalahari,” the Okavango Delta is one of the world’s premiere ecosystems. The private concession includes 650 square miles of stunning landscape and borders the Moremi Game Reserve. The Kwara Concession has a wide diversity of habitats, ranging from the clear delta waters with reed-lined lagoons and channels to open grasslands to mopane woodlands to palm-fringed islands.

Of course, the featured activities at Kwara are the daily and nightly game drives led by a professional guide and a tracker. But there may be nothing more awe-inspiring than observing wild animals while on a unique walking safari. The watery terrain is perfect for both mokoro, a traditional dug-out canoe adventure and motorboat cruises enjoying the spectacular birds, shy antelope, majestic elephant, hippo, and crocodiles living here. Fishing in the lagoon and river channels is a unique experience. There are several tilapia species (including the olive bream or nembwe, red breasted tilapia, purple faced largemouth, and three spot tilapia), catfish, African pike, and the mighty tiger fish.

The main area at camp houses a curio shop, a sitting area, a bar, and a thatched dining area covered by tents and built on slightly raised wooden decks with open sides affording incredible views of the lagoon. The lounge was constructed around the trunks of Leadwood and mangosteen trees, and the bar itself was fashioned from an old tree trunk. As an added bonus, the camp has a small plunge pool with a deck and sun loungers. Meals at Kwara Camp are generally served buffet style. A light breakfast is enjoyed around the campfire with a more wholesome brunch served after the morning game drive. Dinner usually happens after the afternoon/evening game drive.
