Sitatunga Private Island Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Sitatunga Private Island Camp is a small, intimate, and exclusive paradise in the idyllic Okavango Delta.

Opening in July 2023, Sitatunga Private Island Camp will have two tented rooms and a private two-bedroom suite, all tucked away in the ebony trees on Sitatunga Private Island. Guests can expect the utmost luxury, with exceptional service and attention to detail. Each room features exceptional views over the Okavango Delta’s water ways.

Sitatunga Island is named after the elusive Sitatunga antelope, which is one of the rarest finds in Botswana. They live tucked away in papyrus beds and rarely venture out to places where you might catch a glimpse of them. During a quiet afternoon at Sitatunga Private Island you might just be lucky enough to see one of these hidden wildlife gems.

The camp is situated in the Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The annually flooded grasslands surrounding the deep channels of the Okavango Delta present exceptional opportunities to see animals like elephant, giraffe, impala, sable antelope, kudu, zebra, common waterbuck and reedbuck, tsessebe, wildebeest, red lechwe, and Cape buffalo. Predators living in the area include the African wild dog, several resident prides of lion, as well as leopard, cheetah, and African wildcat.

The channels that directly surround the camp lend themselves to water activities including mokoro tours in a traditional dug-out canoe steered by long poles and motorboat rides. Hippo and crocodile are common in the waterways. Traditional game drives in 4x4s and led by expert guides are also available to traverse the nearby savannas in search of big game animals such as lions, elephants, giraffes, and wildebeest. The wetlands combining with the drier grasslands are also home to an impressive variety of birdlife. For avid birdwatchers this is an absolute paradise.

The experience at Sitatunga Private Island Camp will be a true Botswana experience, marrying the lush, vibrant, and rich water landscapes of the Okavango with the charismatic wildlife you would expect to on an African safari. Expect time in boats weaving between tight papyrus channels as well as time in a safari vehicle watching the lives of some of the most iconic African animals unfold.
