Chitabe Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Perched on an island in the southeast corner of the Okavango Delta, Chitabe Camp provides breathtaking views of the delta’s floodplains, marshes, and grasslands.

Accommodations at Chitabe Camp can be described as nothing less than pure luxury. Eight tent spacious Meru style tents are built on elevated wooden decks witin a canopy of trees and are decorated with unique design features and beautiful artwork. There are seven twin-bedded rooms, one king-size bedded room, and one twin guide room which is shared with Chitabe Lediba. Each room features an en suite bathroom with both an indoor and outdoor shower, double basin vanities, and flush toilets.

The camp is situated on island in the Okavango Delta between the Gomoti and Sandibe river systems. These areas play host to a myriad of bird species, most notably the African hawk eagle and hooded vulture. Palm trees and acacia woodlands reside almost side-by-side in this diverse topography. Known as “the jewel of the Kalahari” the Okavango’s lagoons, lakes, and deep channels form an oasis amid the arid Kalahari Desert. It is no wonder its fresh waters attract an unmatched diversity and concentration of wildlife and wildfowl.

The camp provides a variety of exciting activities. Morning and evening game drives are offered in open-air 4×4 vehicle and led by expert guides. It’s the perfect opportunity to see cheetahs, wild dogs, lions, elephants, impalas, and leopards, or venture out on a night drive to catch a glimpse of a genet, porcupine, serval, or aardwolf. For an up-close adventure, guides also lead walking safaris for the chance to spot flora and fauna missed from the vehicles.

The main camp is made up of a thatched dining area, pub, and lounge leading onto open decking, all built on raised decks to provide excellent views across the floodplain. The refreshing pools is a great spot to rinse off the dust of a game drive and relax before dinner. An eco-friendly camp, Chitabe runs on one hundred percent solar power and uses efficient solar geysers to heat water. As part of the Wilderness Safari’s 4C’s project, the camp also contributes to several conservation and community projects.
