Set among boulders and age-old Tamboti trees, Madikwe Hills Private Game Lodge offers a luxury safari experience in the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve.

Accommodations consist of ten spacious glass-fronted suites. The cozy lounge with its huge slate-clad chimney over a romantic fireplace leads into a peaceful bedroom featuring a gigantic pillow-strewn four-poster bed draped in generous layers of muslin. Floor to ceiling windows make sure the beauty of the bush and the presence of the wild is felt at all times. The large en suite bathrooms have large soaking tubs and cavernous step-up circular showers as well as an outdoor shower. The private deck lie under the shade of an acacia tree where a sunbed or the plunge pool invite guests to relax and enjoy the views. Other amenities include air-conditioning, fans, min-bar, and Wi-Fi.

The lodge is located in the private Madikwe Game Reserve which encompasses 185,329-acres of bushland stretching all the way up to the Botswana border. In fact, it’s one of the largest and most popular game reserves in South Africa. Once farmland, it now home to with 86 mammals, 420 bird species, and 104 tree species. The Reserve is made up of mostly grasslands and bushveld with the occasional lone mountain and rocky outcrops. Some of the wildlife found here include cheetahs, wild dogs, leopards, hyenas, lion, elephant, black & white rhino, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, and various antelope.

Morning and afternoon game drives are conducted in state of the art open game vehicles with bucket seats and fold-down armrests. Expert guides and trackers share their knowledge of the bush and the wildlife for a once in a lifetime experience. Night game drives discover nocturnal animals and their nightly activities. For a closer look at the flora and fauna, a guided nature walks examines the smaller animals not seen from the game vehicles as well as lessons on tracking.

The central area is the heart of the lodge. The comfortable lounge is stocked with beautiful books and cozy places to sit and relax. The bar is the ideal place to grab a cocktail and chat with fellow guests or guides. The main deck overlooks a busy waterhole.
