Leeu Estates

PLAN MY TRIP

Located in the picturesque Franschhoek valley, Leeu Estates is five-star boutique hotel set within a working vineyard and lovingly landscaped gardens.

Accommodations at the hotel consist of seventeen well-appointed rooms and suites. Six of the rooms and suites are set within the hotel’s refurbished 19th century manor house. Two other rooms sit adjacent to the manor house while the other nine rooms and suites are housed within charming garden cottages. There is a choice between the classic rooms, deluxe rooms, studio rooms, executive suites, and executive suites with a terrace. Each room sumptuous room features bespoke furniture, plush beds with goose-down duvets and fine linens, and under-floor heating. The spacious en suite bathrooms include marble floors, large rain showers, and heated towel racks.

The hotel is just a few minutes from Franschhoek town, known as the culinary and wine capital of South Africa. Delicious food options range from classic French cuisine to contemporary South African restaurants, English pub food, bistro fare, and wood-fired pizzas, alongside some of the finest wine on the continent. Boutique wineries cater to guests desiring private tastings or simply an introduction to the finer points of wine-tasting. In fact, Claude Marais, an ancestor of the founder of Piper and Heath, Chris Liebenberg began his wine farm Plaisir de Merle in the region in 1693. It has continued as an award-winning wine producer in the hands of the Marais family to this day. Each of the hotel’s guests receives a complimentary wine tasting at the Wine Studio at Leeu Estates.

Other nearby activities include world-class golfing, four-wheeling, paragliding, hot-air ballooning, horseback riding, and more. Day trips to the Wemmers River let anglers fish for wild brown trout and rainbow trout. For a more relaxed excursion, visitors can book a horse-drawn carriage ride through the local village. While the more adventurous can enjoy a bike ride through the town or a strenuous hike up Mont Rochelle. Afterwards, a trip to Leeu Spa provides all the necessary pampering treatments to relax any sore muscles.

Located in the Manor House is the Estates’ own The Dining Room known for its long, leisurely meals with excellent views of the mountains and vineyards. In the adjacent, glassed-in conservatory guests can indulge in afternoon tea. Other restaurants in the Leeu Collection include the North-Indian Marigold Restaurant, Tuk Tuk Microbrewery, and the new La Petit Colombe with its rich, chef-created international fare. There is also a large swimming pool, gym, and lush gardens on site. A complimentary shuttle takes guests around the estates and into town.
