Babylonstoren

PLAN MY TRIP

Located at the base of Simonsberg in the Franschhoek wine valley, Babylonstoren is one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms.

Babylonstoren has 29 total rooms, composed of six one-bedroom suites, three one-bedroom cottages, four two-bedroom cottages, nine farmhouse suites, and seven cottages known as the “fynbos” cottages. All accommodations are luxurious, clean, comfortable, and built in the same architectural style as the area’s original Dutch farmhouses. Large white buildings set into the beautiful green landscape leave you feeling a sense of wellbeing. The rooms all offer complimentary mini-bar and en-suite bathrooms with heated floors. Babylonstoren is the perfect place to relax after long international flights or at the end of a safari.

Babylonstoren features incredible fruit and vegetable gardens, unique accommodation, and fine food and wine. The Franschhoek Valley is regarded by many as one of the most spectacular wine regions in the world. Its history dates back to the 17th century when the area was farmed by Huguenots settlers. Today, Franschhoek evidences that legacy with its many French town, street, and property names. The valley is enclosed on three sides by mountains and offers magnificent views of the many vineyards.

The food is an integral part of the experience here. Babel Restaurant is housed in an old cow shed and is a unique architectural combination of the cape Dutch architecture with contemporary glass walls. The food is described as tasty yet often unconventional. This farm-to-fork restaurant only serves seasonal food which reflects their “clean, pick, and serve” philosophy. The property’s other restaurant, The Greenhouse, is tucked away between oak trees and looks over the garden. Food at The Greenhouse is served picnic-style, highlighting fresh and seasonal ingredients right from the garden. Fresh scones with seasonal preserves are a favorite here!

Guests of the hotel can immerse themselves in a host of activities, from strolling the beautiful property, fishing, touring the magnificent gardens, bird watching, cycling, kayaking, or enjoying the spa.
