Hyena Pan

PLAN MY TRIP

Set within a Cathedral Mopane forest overlooking a natural salt pan in the Okavango Delta, Hyena Pan Tented Camp is a tranquil, luxury safari camp, the ideal spot to unplug the electronics and tune into nature.

Accommodations at the camp consist of eight canvas tents furnished with comfortable twin beds. Each tent has its own bathroom with a flush toilet and gas-generated shower. For added convenience, the tents include a wardrobe, luggage rack, hat stand, and luggage storage unit. An eco-friendly property, the tents are solar-powered and provide bedside lamps for reading a good book or writing in a journal as the animals sing a wild lullaby in the background. Other amenities include an international charging facility and in-room safe.

Hyena Pan is situated in the famous Okavango Delta World Heritage Site. The tented camp borders the Moremi National Park and is positioned seven miles north of the game-rich Khwai River. The pan is a constant water supply to a wide variety of birds and animals year-round. In December to March, the rains flood the area creating an enormous water feature enticing hippo, elephant, and buffalo, not to mention the exceptional array of bird life like the bateleurs. Plus, a vast array of predators including leopards, wild dogs, lions, and spotted hyenas roam about the pan looking for water or easy prey.

There are a range of exciting activities to choose from the camp. Morning and afternoon game drives are led by expert rangers along the Khwai River. Guests of Hyena Pan get exclusive use of this 865,000-acre private concession. In addition to which, full day games drives to Moremi Game Reserve are available but need to be pre-booked. Guided bush walks provide a closer appreciation of the pan and a chance to study animal tracks. Moreover, Hyena Pan boasts an underground hide, a ground level, hidden view point, positioned facing an extremely private and special waterhole. It’s a favorite water source for elephants, kudu, roan antelopes, giraffes, and warthogs. For an aerial view of the bush, five-meter high semi-thatched elevated platforms are available for an afternoon tea and viewing above the wildlife or for sleeping under the stars in twin beds and mosquito netting as the nocturnal animals roam below.

The main area of the camp features a spacious dining room. There are also two comfortable lounge areas with sun decks for panoramic views of the mopane forest and pan area. The rim-flow pool on an elevated deck overlooking the bush presents the perfect spot to swim and still take in the sights. The camp has a curio shop for souvenirs and gifts for friends back home. A small reference library is available for brushing up on names of the various flora and fauna hereabouts. Wi-Fi is accessible in the reception area. The camp’s rates are fully inclusive including activities, accommodation, all meals, and a moderate selection of cold drinks, local beers, and wines.
