Meno A Kwena

PLAN MY TRIP

Overlooking the Boteti River midway between the Okavango Delta and the famous Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Meno a Kwena Camp offers an intimate and traditional safari camp experience.

Incorporating a traditional safari theme with modern African culture, accommodations at the camp consist of nine luxurious tents designed to reflect the best of Botswanan art and landscape. Each tent comes with an en suite bathroom with a flush toilet and romantic outdoor shower. The twin safari tents have room for two adults and two children as each tent consists of two queen-sized beds. While the king-sized safari tent is perfect for two adults. Making it the perfect place to unwind, each tent comes with a private veranda and scenic views of the river and bush. Other amenities include a fan, dressing gown, tea/coffee, and electrical outlets.

Meno a Kwena means ‘teeth of the crocodile’ – a common sight as the toothy reptiles lounge on the Boteti River’s banks, often near the camp. Many wildlife congregate around the river, water-dependent zebra and wildebeest especially can be found here searching for water during the dry season. It’s also a hot spot for elephants to bath and play in the cool waters. Other visitors to river include antelopes, elephant, white rhino, predators, giraffe, and hippo. The camp is perfectly located for safaris into four pristine wildlife sanctuaries including the Okavango Delta, Makgadikgadi Saltpans, Central Kalahari Game Reserve, and Nxai Pan National Park.

There are many activities to choose from at the camp. A unique and exciting opportunity is the bushman walking experience. Small families of Bushman from the Ju! Hoansi clan village of Xai Xai on the Botswana/Namibia border of the Kalahari Desert come to Meno a Kwena to operate the walking and cultural experience. This popular activity provides insight into their hunter/gather way of life, something that hasn’t changed much over hundreds of years. Daily game drives take in the wildlife of the Kalahari and other neighboring reserves with chances of spotting desert-adapted meerkats, as well as antelopes, lions, and cheetahs. Dependent on the water levels, short two-hour boat rides explore the wildlife on the river. A floating hide offers a close-up experience of wildlife activity in and around the river. In June through October and subject to the weather, pan sleep outs provide a three-day adventure to sleep under the stars in Botswana’s famous salt pans.

The main area includes a comfortable lounge with views of the river and its wildlife. Meals are served communally with hearty home-cooked fare that feeds the soul as well as the stomach. The camp also has a refreshing pool for a relaxing afternoon dip between activities. In addition to which, there is a bar and library.
