Wolwedans Dunes Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Perched atop a dune plateau in the NamibRand Nature Reserve, Dunes Lodge is a luxurious safari camp by Wolwedans.

Accommodations at the lodge consist of nine spacious chalets made from a combination of wooden structures and canvas blinds for the ambiance of a tented camp with the comfort of a permanent structure. Each spacious en-suite chalet has a small dressing table and a decorative four-poster bed dressed in crisp white linens with warm down duvets for the cold nights and mosquito nets. An additional family chalet has two separate bedrooms with a shared bathroom. The chalets have been cleverly designed to open on one side so guests can watch the sunrise from their bed. The large en suite bathrooms come with solar-heated shower and flush toilets. For added privacy, the chalets enjoy their own veranda with overlooks vast stretches of pristine sand. At night, guests can roll up the canvas blinds for the feel of sleeping under a starry sky.

Covering an area of some 494,210 acres close to Sossusvlei, the NamibRand Reserve is bordered by the Naukluft Park in the west and the impressive Nubib Mountain range in the east. The special attraction of the reserve is the diversity of desert landscapes. Virtually all facets of the Namib are represented here. Mountains plunging down into endless grassy plains are interspersed by red vegetated dunes create a living tapestry of ever-changing colors and shapes that provide a visual feast for artists and photographers.

The southern regions of the NamibRand Nature Reserve are easily accessible from Boulders Camp, and experienced guides conduct on scenic game drives and walking safaris along the ancient routes in the hunting grounds of the San Bushmen. This opens a window into the world of uniquely adapted desert flora and fauna. Game species found in the reserve include gemsbok, mountain and plains zebra, springbok, red hartebeest, bat-eared fox, spotted hyena, Cape fox, and African wildcats. The rockier areas are inhabited by kudu, klipspringer, baboon, and leopard, while the dunes are inhabited by a rich and diverse micro-fauna. Hot-air ballooning trips in this pristine area offers vistas across the Diamond Coast and Sossusvlei.

The main area houses two comfortable lounges, a fireplace, a tea deck, and two dining rooms. For panoramic views of the dunes, there are several sundowner and decks. Wolwedans properties are well-known for their excellent cuisine and pairings of South African wines. A short walk away, the lapa has deep leather sofas and chairs, a library, and a cool wine cellar built deep into the sand. A small pool set back in the dunes is perfect for a refreshing dip after a day in the sun.
