Desert Hills Glamping Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Perched on a hillside in the starkly beautiful Namib Desert, Desert Hills Glamping Camp provides a breathtaking escape into nature paired with comfortable lodgings.

Accommodations at the camp consist of ten twin tents. The spacious tents are constructed of canvas paneling over wooden frames and equipped with a free-standing fan to help keep them cool. Each tent is furnished with comfortable twin beds. The en suite bathroom comes with a flush toilet, twin vanity, and a shower. For added privacy, the tents are set apart from each other. The shaded veranda includes camp chairs and the perfect spot to relax and take in the views.

The camp is located in an isolated valley on a private farm just ten miles of the Sesriem turnoff close to the Namib-Naukluft National Park. Namib-Naukluft National Park is a vast wilderness of almost 31,068 square miles and contains Sossusvlei, Sesriem Canyon, the Welwitschia Trail, Sandwich Harbour, the Naukluft Mountains, and the Kuiseb Canyon. Sossusvlei, with its enormous dunes, some of which reach up to 1,000 feet high, is one of the top destinations in Namibia. Dead Pan, at the base of one of the largest dunes at Sossusvlei, is a large ghostly expanse of dried white clay, punctuated by skeletons of ancient camel-thorn trees. But when there have been good rains, the water in this dead pan attracts flamingos and other aquatic birds.

For an added fee, guests can book expeditions into Namib-Naukluft National Park which are led by expert guides in 4×4 safari vehicles. These trips take in the monumental dunes of Sossusvlei and are the best way to survey the vast Namib Desert and its elusive wildlife such as Hartmann’s mountain zebra, oryx, kudu, and klipspringer. In the evening, the camp conducts sundowner drives so guests can enjoy a cold drink while soaking in the splendors of a desert sunset.

The main area of camp is easily accessible from the private tents and includes a large, modernly-furnished mess tent with a comfy lounge, a small bar, and a dining room with both indoor seating and outdoor seating on the shaded patio on a raised wooden deck. Next to the patio is a refreshing swimming pool where guests can cool off from the heat of the day. Delicious meals dished up at the camp include a full-English breakfast, picnic packs for lunch, and a three-course buffet style meal. At night, everyone gathers around the firepit to chat and gaze at the bright constellations found in the African night sky.
