Onkoshi Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Onkoshi Camp is located on the rim of the Etosha Pan in a secluded peninsula, and has been established as a low impact, environmentally friendly camp.

Accommodation at Onkoshi Camp is in fifteen thatched chalets built on elevated wooden decks. Large, wooden-framed folding doors open to the spectacular panoramic views. The rooms are furnished with locally crafted items, using a blend of metal and wood combined with natural fabrics to create a natural and ethnic ambiance. Each chalet has two beds, except in the honeymoon chalet where a king-size bed is provided. Every chalet includes an indoor and outdoor shower as well as a stone bath offering its own breathtaking view. The units also have a fan, mosquito nets, tea and coffee station, and room service.

Etosha National Park, or Etosha, as it is fondly and locally known, is one of the largest savanna conservations in Africa and is world renowned for its spectacular wildlife. Visitors are amazed at the accessibility to large numbers of elephant, black and white rhinoceros, lion, leopard, and cheetah, as well as herds of innumerable springbok, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, and a multitude of other fascinating species. Onkoshi Camp is set away from the tourist routes, ensuring a pristine, tranquil, and unique experience. The camp has amazing views over the pan, and the spectacular sunrises, shimmering mirages, and breathtaking sunsets defy description. The quiet, the space, the textures and colors, the clear starry nights reveal the heart of Namibia.

Of course, activities at Onkoshi Camp center around game drives. Game viewing within the park in 4×4 safari vehicles gives access to the more exclusive areas that are beyond the reach of self-drive visitors. Spot-lit night drives are an added incentive to stay here and a new introduction. Nocturnal creatures found in Etosha include spotted and brown hyena, aardwolf, honey badger, and jackals. The more adventurous can participate in guided walks or even guided moonlight walks. Photographic opportunities abound, and the clear nights and the lack of light pollution provide stargazing that is almost beyond description.

In the main building there is a restaurant, bar area, and souvenir shop. The camp’s refreshing infinity pool overlooks the pan and provides the perfect spot to cool off during the heat of the day. Amateur astronomers can enjoy the expansive starry skies viewed over the camp at night. As low-impact camp, Onkoshi runs mainly on solar power.
