Namibia

Chobe Savanna Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Along the northern bank of the Chobe River in the Namibian peninsula known as Eastern Caprivi, rests Chobe Savanna Lodge, a camp of thatched-roof and glass-fronted chalets that promise to provide the ultimate in exclusivity and privacy.

Accommodations at the lodge consist of thirteen luxury thatched-chalets. There are ten twin-bedded rooms, two family units, and one family room available. The twin-beds can be converted to doubles upon request. Each chalet features an en suite bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilet. For added privacy, each chalet enjoys its own comfortable veranda with panoramic views of the river. Added amenities include fans, air-conditioning, complimentary stocked mini-bar, 220V plug points, hair dryer, umbrella for the rainy season, in-room safe, tea and coffee making facilities, and bathrobes.

The camp is located in Zambezi Province of Namibia, a narrow strip of country on the northern bank of the Chobe River. It overlooks the vast floodplains of the Chobe National Park’s Puku Flats. The wildlife spotted at Chobe River is abundant both in diversity and population. The area is home to large herds of elephant, hippo, and buffalo, not to mention the rare puku antelope.

There are plenty of exciting activities available from the lodge. Taking advantage of its river setting, the lodge offers safari cruises along the Chobe River for a chance to spot pods of hippos or snapping crocodiles. Anglers will delight in catch and release fishing of tilapia and tigerfish. Bird-watching is ideal here for African skimmers, white-crowned lapwing, all three pratincoles, black coucal, large flocks of African open bills and an excellent number of species in the gardens themselves such as brown firefinch, purple-banded sunbird and white-browed coucal. While guided nature walks take an intimate look at the floodplains and its flora and fauna. While cultural tours explore the local school and villages.

The casual thatch and timber lodge features an open-air common area with fantastic 270-degree panoramic views of the surrounding Chobe River and Chobe National Park Puku Flats. The dining area serves al a carte and buffet style meals. There is an elevated bar tucked under the eaves for amazing sunset viewing and a pre- or post-dinner drink. The lodge’s refreshing swimming pool invites guests to cool off during the heat of the afternoon. While the evening campfire area beckons everyone to come rest under the stars and share stories of the day’s adventures.
