Dolomite Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

The only safari camp in the western part of the Etosha National Park, Dolomite Camp offers comfortable accommodations away from the crowds.

Lodgings at the camp consist of twenty thatched chalets on raised platforms nestled amongst rocky dolomite outcrops. There are seventeen chalets facing west for perfect sunset views on the veranda. These single and double chalets include two comfortable beds, a cozy lounge area, and an en suite bathroom with massage showers. There are also three deluxe chalets facing east for stunning sunrise views. They include a double and single bed plus the added treat of a private plunge pool. Other amenities include an in-room safe, tea and coffee facilities, a desk, and lighted-up makeup mirror.

The camp is part of a brand-new extension into the western region of Etosha and opening up approximately one-third more land to the public. This area is unique in topography, vegetation, and wildlife. The vegetation is mainly karstveldt and mopane shrub land, unique from the rest of the park. Even the landscape is different as the flat, white clay and dust lands of the Etosha Pan transforms into reddish brown soil and a more undulating terrain. The dolomite hill against which the camp is set has seasonally blooming plants that botanists and photographers alike find irresistible.

Game drives in the area allow for exclusive game viewings as the area is still restricted. Experienced and knowledgeable guides take guests through this pristine terrain and the many waterholes offer high chances of spotting a diversity of wildlife. In fact, there are more than fifteen waterholes in this area that attract elephant, rhino, leopard, lion, springbok, gemsbok, and red hartebeest. In addition to which, the birdlife is prolific and the seasonal flowers of Dolomite Hill are a highlight for botanists. It is also an area where previously endangered species like the black rhinoceros and black-faced impala have successfully bred. Hartmann’s mountain zebra live here too.

Facilities at the camp include a reception area, guest lounge, fireside boma, laundry service, two restaurant areas, curio shop, swimming pool, and secure parking. Dolomite Camp is unfenced; thus guests are not allowed to wander outdoors after dark but are escorted to and from rooms. All rooms are equipped with a phone that can be used to request an escort.
