Malansrus Tented Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Set on the banks of Huab River, Malansrus Tented Camp is an intimate and luxurious safari camp with easy access to the Twyfelfontein area.

Accommodations at the camp consist of nine spacious tents positioned under the shade of indigenous mopane trees. Each tent is set apart for added privacy and includes a large bedroom with a table and chair as well as freestanding fans and 220v electricity. The en suite bathroom features a double vanity, shower, and flush toilet. There is also a lovely, shaded veranda furnished with chairs for relaxing and soaking in the views of the granite kopjes.

The camp is located on the banks of the mostly dry Ugab River just nine miles from the turnoff to the Twyfelfontein area in the starkly beautiful Damaraland. Damaraland is one of the driest and most desolate regions in all of Africa. Because water is scarce, this scrubland is home to a varied assortment of desert-adapted wildlife including elephants and black rhinos that can go for days without water. Gemsbok, kudu, springbok, Hartman’s mountain zebra, southern giraffe, gemsbok, lion, cheetah, and spotted and brown hyena call this desert home too. Birdwatchers will delight in the over 240 species recorded here.

For an added fee, guests can book excursions around Damaraland and nearby Twyfelfontein. Half-day excursions follow the tracks of the desert-adapted elephants for a chance to observe these spectacular pachyderms. The Twyfelfontein trip travels to the UNESCO World Heritage Site to study the famous Twyfelfontein engravings. The Twyfelfontein site has the largest concentration of hunter-gatherer rock engravings in the whole of Africa including a series of over 2,500 engravings that are carved on more than 200 sandstone blocks found in the area that date back to 6,000 years ago.

Within easy distance of the private tents lies the center of the camp housed within a large, stylish mess tent. Inside is a comfy lounge area, well-stocked bar, and a dining area that leads out onto a covered patio for both indoor and al fresco meals. There is Wi-Fi in the mess tent. At night, everyone assembles around the inviting fire pit for a chat and a cool drink while observing the local wildlife enjoying its own evening gathering at the nearby waterhole.
