Namibia

Hoanib Valley Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Opened in May 2018, Hoanib Valley Camp overlooks the seasonal Hoanib River and will offer visitors a luxury base from which to explore the wonders of one of the last true wildernesses of Namibia.

Accommodations at the camp consists of six spacious and stylish tents with an en suite bathroom. Each eco-friendly tent is solar powered and enjoys panoramic views of the game-rich Hoanib River Valley.

The Hoanib River Valley is located in the famed Kaokoland of north-western Namibia. This area is still considered some of the most remote terrain in a country known for desolate spaces. The region is also renowned for two of its more famous inhabitants: the desert-adapted elephants of the Namib, and the nomadic Ovahimba tribe. While relatively new on the tourism scene, it is very well known to us here at Piper & Heath. The Hoanib River featured strongly in Chris’s pioneering ‘Rivers of Kaokoland’ safari which he developed and guided in 2002-2003. This was one of the first destinations Chris shared with Emily, his wife.

The camp offers a diverse range of activities. Daily game drives explore the Hoanib riverbed in search of desert-adapted elephants, rhinos, and giraffes from the comfort of a 4×4 safari vehicle. Nature walks are the best way to encounter the smaller creatures as well as the plant life. Cultural tours take guests to local Himba villages, one of the last nomadic tribes for a glimpse into their rich and ancient culture and way of live.

We are very excited about the Hoanib Valley Camp developed by our friends at Natural Selections.
