Naankuse Lodge

Located near Windhoek on former farmland, N/a'ankuse Lodge and Wildlife Sanctuary is an award-winning and sophisticated eco-lodge.

Accommodations consist of six luxury chalets and eight villas. The chalets are elegantly designed and comfortably furnished with large twin beds and air-conditioning. The spacious en suite bathrooms come with a shower. Every chalet enjoys a private veranda with stunning views overlooking the bush. The thatched-roof villas reflect the natural, wild beauties of Africa with all the comforts of an elegant hotel. The villas come with a self-catering kitchen, bedroom with air-conditioning, comfortable lounge, and a dining area. Large glass windows make the rooms light and airy and provide fantastic views of the bush.

The lodge sits thirty minutes from Hosea Kutako International Airport outside of the capital city of Windhoek. The lodge and sanctuary are settled on 3,706-acres of former farmland making it the perfect habitat for recovering lion, leopard, African wild dogs, caracal, chacma baboon, and cheetah. The environment is comprised of fields of tall grass, hills of blackthorn, camel thorn trees, dry riverbeds, and two waterholes creating the perfect ecosystem. The Wildlife Sanctuary is committed to the rehabilitation and preservation of orphaned and injured wildlife. In addition, the Naankuse Sanctuary is also a haven for wildlife and plays hosts to many African wildlife and free-roaming game, including giraffe, zebra, kudu, hartebeest, springbok, eland, and jackal. Plus, the lodge supports the local San Bushmen community through funding education for the kids and jobs at the hotel for the adults.

The main activity at the lodge is the carnivore feeding tour. The scenic drive led by experienced guides affords a chance to let guests watch the guides feed the senior baboons, caracals, lions, cheetahs, African wild dogs, and leopards and hear their stories while also spotting some of the free-roaming game. Guided nature walks at a more intimate look at the animals and are great for birdwatching. For a truly unique experience, guests may enjoy a morning stroll with a cheetah or a caracal with the aid of a guide. The sanctuary does have a strict no petting rule and also animals must be photographed alone – no selfies. Cultural tours visit local San Bushmen communities to observe their way of life, listen to local tales around a campfire, or hunt with the San Bushmen.

The main lodge building houses a bar, tranquil dining room area, and kitchen as well as fantastic views of the bush. Delicious meals featuring many tastes of African cuisine are dishes up and the Sunday buffet is extremely popular. While the refreshing pool offers a cool escape from the afternoon heat.
