Teufelskrallen Tented Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Situated in Namibia’s part of the world-famous Kalahari Desert with its reddened sand dunes and camel thorn trees, Teufelskrallen Tented Lodge is a comfortable safari destination with stunning desert views.

Strong stilts support each of the six luxury tents including three new tents constructed of canvas and glass. Linked by a wooden boardwalk, each tented accommodation boasts spacious rooms with either twin or double beds, comfortable furniture, a fridge, a mini-bar. A private bathroom with a shower and toilet can be accessed via a wooden bridge. For added privacy and relaxation, each tent comes with a large observation platform opening to impressive vistas of the dunes and bush.

The lodge is situated in an unforgettable location at the edge of the Kalahari Desert with access to the desert through a private game reserve with over 10,000 wildlife-rich acres. Animals roam freely and include black wildebeest, blue wildebeest, giraffe, eland, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, plains zebra, nyala, impala, springbok, blesbok, red hartebeest, oryx, kudu, steenbok, porcupine, pangolin, aardvark, warthog, ostrich, as well as many common small animals and water birds during the rainy season. This part of the Kalahari boasts high red sand dunes, some as tall as ninety-eight feet.

Open 4×4 vehicles offer spectacular views of the desert and diverse wildlife. Morning and afternoon game drives and sundowner drives led by expert guides provide glimpses of the abundant wildlife species. For a more intimate look at the flora and fauna of the Kalahari, hikes are the best way to view some of the area’s most memorable wildlife. Guided and unguided themed hikes range from three to twelve miles on well-marked and well-maintained hiking trails. Mountain biking is also available. Guests can also learn how the lodge supports the Devil’s Claw project to provide a certain amount of water for growing these rare plants that produces healing ingredients for rheumatic and arthritic diseases.

The Altes Farmhaus or old farmhouse is about a mile and half away from the tents and serves as the lobby and gathering point for many on-site amenities. Breakfast and dinner are served daily at the old farmhouse which is located in a shady garden oasis. During the heat of the day, guests can take a dip in the refreshing pool and order a cool drink to enjoy beneath the numerous shade trees.
