Halali Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Beautifully set beneath shady mopane trees at the base of a dolomite hill, Halali Camp offers a range of comfortable accommodations in Etosha National Park.

Accommodations at the camp consist of sixty-six different rooms and chalets to choose from. For the budget conscious, there are thirty-nine double rooms available. The ten one-bedroom chalets include a small kitchen and lounge as well as a sliding glass door to the outside patio where the barbeque stands. Ten two-bedroom bush chalets have twin beds in each room, a shared bathroom with a shower, a kitchen, and a cozy lounge. For families or groups, the two family chalets features two twin-bedrooms, a large lounge area, a kitchen, and a spacious patio near the waterhole. While the honeymooners can choose from five honeymoon suites with a spacious bedroom and a private patio with a romantic outdoor jacuzzi. Other amenities include air-conditioning, mini fridge, and tea and coffee facilities.

The camp is located exactly halfway between Okaukuejo and Namutoni in Etosha National Park. The lodge sits strategically in the middle of the Etosha Pan next to one of the few hills found in Etosha. Formed millions of years ago by a slow-drying lake, the salt pan is largest enough to be seen from space. The camp is surrounded by some of the most popular waterholes in Etosha, and, as the camp is slightly elevated, the view to its own floodlit waterhole is excellent. The thicker vegetation found here makes this spot popular with leopard, rhino, and elephant.

Activities while at Halali Camp center around game viewing, whether in a private vehicle or on guided morning and afternoon game drives. This is the best way to view not only the traditional “Big Five” but herds of zebra and springbok. Some of the smaller animals found here include jackal, bat-eared fox, warthog, honey badger, and ground squirrel. In fact, 114 species of mammals live in Etosha, as well as, 350 bird species. Namibia Wildlife Resorts has recently introduced guided night drives, which until recently were not allowed in Etosha. This the best way to watch the nocturnal activities of leopards lit by the waterhole’s floodlights.

Resembling a small village, the camp’s main buildings house the restaurant, bar, kiosk, and shop. The camp’s large swimming pool is the perfect spot to cool off during the heat of the day. Halali is the German word signifying the end of a hunt as the camp signifies the end of hunting and the rise of eco-tourism and wildlife conservation.
