Hansa Hotel

PLAN MY TRIP

The prestigious Hansa Hotel is in the heart of Swakopmund and has been extremely popular from the day it opened its doors.

The hotel prides itself on offering the most luxurious accommodation in Swakopmund. There are 49 twin/double rooms, five family units, two suites, and two executive suites, all of which have en-suite bathrooms, televisions, direct-dial telephones, hair dryer, in-room safes, and a tea/coffee station. The suites also feature air-conditioning and high-speed internet access. A favorite destination for honeymooners, it even housed the parents of Piper & Heath owner Chris Liebenberg, Chris & Maureen, who honeymooned there in 1967.

The seaside town of Swakopmund is the perfect place to escape the heat of the vast Namib Desert. The jewel of the Namibian Coast, the town reflects its German colonial origins in its architecture. Not only is it a beautiful beach town, it’s the perfect jumping off point for exploring the nearby Skeleton Coast and Namib Desert. In addition, the town offers miles of warm, sandy beaches stretching to the north and south and swimming in the cool waters of the Atlantic Ocean. There are also plenty of world class restaurants around many serving up excellent German beer. Of course, there are plenty of historical museums and sites to visit too including the Swakopmund Museum, the National Marine Aquarium, the German-style Woermannhaus, and the Kristall Galerie where the largest quartz crystal has ever been found.

Yet, this premiere holiday spot is also the adventure capital of Namibia. The red sand dunes of the Namib Desert tempt adrenaline junkies interested in quad bike treks, sand boarding, and tracking chameleons, Palmato geckos, sidewinders, scorpions, and sand-diving lizards. For an aerial view of the town, parachuting or hot air balloon rides are a good choice. With the Atlantic Ocean steps away, there are plenty of dolphin and seal cruises, fly fishing excursions, beach angling and whale watching tours.

The hotel’s classical building dates from 1905 and is perfectly placed so that everything is within easy walking distance. Breakfast and dinner are served in the main dining room with an excellent a la carte menu that offers the freshest ingredients including seafood, game, grilled meats, vegetarian dishes, and a huge selection of mouthwatering desserts. The Terrace which overlooks the gardens is a perfect venue for lunch. The Hansa Hotel services include a laundry service, dry cleaning, foreign exchange, secretarial service, babysitting, library, carwash, lunch packs, lost and found, courtesy transport, secure parking, and a medical service. The hotel has received the Best Hotel in Namibia Award twice, is a five-time winner of the Award of Excellence, and has received the prestigious Diners Club Wine List Platinum Award for its outstanding selection and quality of its wines.
