Usangu Expedition Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Nestled in the shade of Miombo woodlands, in the Usangu Wetlands of Ruaha National Park, Usangu Expedition Camp offers an exclusive safari experience unlike any other.

With just four guest tents, carefully positioned as close to the high-water mark as possible, Usangu Expedition Camp offers a unique safari experience, focused on simplicity and exploration. The guest tents are comfortable and simple, set upon raised wooden decks, and with views of the wetlands. All tents include shaded veranda and en-suite bathrooms with safari bucket showers and flush toilets.

Each group has a private guide and vehicle, which allows for full flexibility of daily activities. Walking safaris and game drives are best experienced in the early mornings, when wildlife is more active and temperatures are cooler. Night game drives provide a special opportunity to spot nocturnal animals and those who prey upon them.

Uniquely, upon arrival at camp, guests are provided with a camera trap to place near camp for the duration of their stay. On the last afternoon, guests may retrieve the wildlife images captured by the camera.

Guests will enjoy eating their meals outdoors, often as a picnic while participating in a variety of camp activities. Boating safaris and relaxing in natural hot springs are memorable highlights for many guests.

The camp’s location within the Usangu Wetlands of Ruaha National Park provides exceptional opportunities for game viewing and bird watching. This region is known for its diversity of wildlife and is secluded from the more crowded, tourist locations, making it an ideal place to explore the wonders of Africa.

A particularly interesting and educational activity is a visit to the Douglas Bell Eco Research Station. Guests will learn about the research and conservation work being conducted in the wetlands. Many animal species live in the Usangu Wetlands, including ostrich, lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, wild dog, honey badger, lesser and greater kudu, and Roan and Sable antelope.
