Arusha Coffee Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Lounging in the shadows of beautiful Mount Meru lies Arusha Coffee Lodge, a retreat in the middle of one of Tanzania’s largest coffee plantations.

Infused with the rich aroma of coffee, each of the thirty plantation-style chalets is set among evergreen coffee fields. The eighteen Plantation Rooms have an inviting fireplace, an en suite bathroom with both a shower and a bath, and a private verandah overlooking the surrounding green coffee garden. The twelve Plantation Suites are more spacious and include an en suite bathroom with a soothing rainfall shower and generous bathtub, a private outside terrace with a log fire, and a 32” TV with satellite service. All of the rooms have an in-room safe, bathrobes and slippers, mini-bar, and tea and coffee making facilities.

The lodge is located on the outskirts of Arusha within the foothills of Mount Meru. The city of Arusha, known as the safari capital, offers several cultural experiences including the Museum of Natural History, Tanzanite Museum, Maasai Market, and local cultural center. Another thrilling day trip takes guests to the Ngorongoro Crater, a large unflooded volcanic caldera which is 2,000 feet deep and 100 square miles across. This massive natural enclosure is home to vast herds of plains game along with accompanying predators such as lion and hyena.

Always a guest highlight, the “bean-to-cup” coffee estate tour is a must-do. This two-hour walk around the coffee plantation illustrates how the entire coffee process works, from growing and harvesting to drying and producing this favorite aromatic brew. Animal-lovers should visit Arusha National Park. The 212-square mile park includes a montane forest which is home to the blue monkey, turaco, trogon, black and white colobus monkey, buffalo, warthog, and more. In the center of the forest stands the remarkable Ngurdoto Crater, whose steep, rocky cliffs enclose a wide marshy floor dotted with herds of buffalo and warthog.

The lodge has been designed around the original landowners home built circa the 1900’s giving it a homey and nostalgic feel. The main lodge houses an a la carte restaurant, an intimate cafe bistro, and a cozy lounge, all warm by cozy open-fireplaces. Delicious meals are made from locally sourced produce and are often complimented by home-baked goodies, fine wines, and of course, fresh local coffee. There is an enclosed pool, garden terrace, and acres of lush, verdant coffee plantation to enjoy. For even more relaxation, Peaberries Therapies has massages, pedicures, and manicures available.
