Osonjoi Lodge

PLAN MY TRIP

Set on a forested hillside just beyond the eastern rim of Tanzania’s iconic Ngorongoro Crater, Osonjoi Lodge is one of the most strategically positioned properties in the conservation area.

Located near the quieter Lemala Gate access road, the lodge offers guests privileged access to the crater floor, allowing wildlife enthusiasts and photographers to reach the action within just 10–15 minutes and enjoy the best game-viewing hours of early morning and late afternoon, when the crater is at its most active.

The lodge features 20 spacious suites, including 16 standard suites and two two-bedroom family suites, all thoughtfully spaced for privacy among the surrounding highland forest. Designed to reflect the beauty and tranquility of the Ngorongoro Highlands, each suite features oversized beds, expansive living areas, large picture windows, and a signature “secret nook” daybed perfect for relaxing after a day on safari. Generous en-suite bathrooms include double vanities, walk-in showers, freestanding bathtubs, and dressing areas. Cool crater-rim evenings are met with thoughtful comforts such as slow-burning wood stoves, winter-weight duvets, and hot water bottles.

At the heart of the lodge, a striking double-volume main area features a welcoming lounge and bar, an outdoor viewing deck with a roaring fire, and an indoor heated swimming pool overlooking the forest. A secluded spa suite tucked among the trees offers a range of wellness treatments designed to complement the rhythm of safari life.

Activities focus on exploring the remarkable Ngorongoro Crater through expertly guided game drives, where guests can encounter lion, elephant, black rhino, leopard, cheetah, and vast concentrations of plains game. Guided walks along the crater rim and through the surrounding forests with Maasai guides and armed rangers provide a deeper understanding of the region’s ecology, medicinal plants, and cultural heritage. Guests can also enjoy exclusive catered lunches on the crater floor, allowing for uninterrupted full-day wildlife experiences in one of Africa’s most celebrated safari destinations.

Named after the Osonjoi tree, which holds symbolic and medicinal significance for the Maasai people, the lodge embodies Lemala’s commitment to conservation, community partnership, and meaningful safari experiences in East Africa.
