Maweninga Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

Perched atop a huge granite kopje overlooking Tarangire National Park, Maweninga Camp offers comfy lodgings and spectacular views.

Accommodations at the camp consist of sixteen tents built on wooden terraces overlooking the savannah floor. Each spacious canvas tent has single, double, and triple beds available. There is a dressing room alcove and an en suite bathroom including a vanity sink, flush toilets, and solar-powered showers with hot water available twenty-four hours a day. The tent’s best feature is its open-terrace fitted with safari chairs, a small table, and unparalleled views of the savannah.

The camp is located in game-rich Tarangire National Park. Best known for its impressive elephant population, Tarangire is home to large herds totaling nearly 2,500 individuals. The sixth largest national park in Tanzania, it occupies 1,096 square miles. The park is also famous for its huge number of baobab trees, tree climbing lions, resident zebra, and wildebeest. It is also home to the lesser seen kudu, oryx, eland, and gerenuk. While thousands of flamingoes, as well as over 400 other bird species flock to Lake Manyara, a soda lake, making the area a bird lover’s paradise.

Daily game drives explore Tarangire Park with the aid of a knowledgeable guide and tracker. Bush walks take a more intimate look at the smaller flora and fauna for a more in-depth study of the natural wonders of Tanzania. Hot air balloon rides can be booked for a bird’s eye view of this impressive park. While night drives let guests view the nighttime antics of Tarangire’s nocturnal wildlife such as genets, bush babies, porcupines, and even the occasional leopard.

The main camp building houses two restaurants, two bars with cozy fireplaces, and a spacious terrace overlooking Instagram-worthy views. The larger restaurant sits under a makuti roof. The smaller and more intimate restaurant elevates guest’s dining experience from its perched platform in the trees. The main bar enjoys leads onto the wide rock terrace. The environmentally friendly camp runs on solar energy.
