Ubuntu Migration Camp

PLAN MY TRIP

An authentic mobile camp, Ubuntu Migration Camp visits three different locations in the iconic Serengeti as it follows the great migration.

Accommodations at the camp consist of eight spacious tented suites. Each room has king-sized beds with twin beds available upon request. The en-suite bathrooms come with hot-water safari bucket showers and flushing toilets. The family tent has a king-sized bed and two single beds as well as an en suite bathroom. Private verandas overlook the Serengeti plains and provide the perfect spot to relax and watch the wildlife.

From July to October, the camp is pitched in the northern Serengeti, from November to March, it is in the Kusini area of the southern Serengeti, and from May to mid-July, it is located in the Western Corridor. The camp is perfectly set up for witnessing the annual great migration as millions of wildebeests, gazelles, and zebras move across to Kenya and back again. Not far behind the migrating herds are the Serengeti’s predators, most notably large populations of lion but also including leopard, cheetah, jackal, hyaena, aardwolf, and serval cat. It is also home to approximately seventy large mammals including innumerable gazelle, zebra, and buffalo also graze the grasslands along with notable numbers of elephant and giraffe Encompassing about 12,000-square miles, the Serengeti is one of the oldest ecosystems in the world as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Experienced guides lead morning and afternoon game drives in either open or closed 4×4 vehicles perfect for following the ample wildlife. From May to November, hot air balloon safaris provide an aerial view of the Serengeti plains and animals below. Bird watchers will enjoy spotting some of the 500 bird species found in the area.

The native word “ubuntu” exemplifies generosity, consideration, and graciousness toward others, characteristics all embodied by the staff at Ubuntu Migration Camp. At the heart of the camp is an open-plan main area with a library. Breakfast and lunch are served under canvas in the next-door dining tent. However, a delicious dinner is often enjoyed under the stars beside the glowing embers of the campfire.
